Dr. Rizwan Riyaz

President of JSMAA.

I am a distinguished professional with a legacy of excellence in emergency medicine and medical toxicology. Graduating as one of the top students in 1998, I honed my skills through emergency medicine training at Aga Khan University and pursued a fellowship in medical toxicology in the United States. Acquiring the CCT and completing training in emergency medicine in the UK, I served as a consultant in emergency medicine at a major trauma centre. Currently, I hold the position of Emergency Medicine Consultant at the University Hospital of Queens and Derby, specializing in Trauma. Additionally, I proudly serve as the Chair of the Toxicology Special Interest Group at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, contributing to the advancement of our field. My journey reflects a commitment to expertise, innovation, and leadership in the dynamic realm of emergency medicine and medical toxicology.

Dr. Waheed Shaikh

General Secretary

Dr. Waheed Murad, the appointed General Secretary at JSMAA, graduated from Jinnah Sindh Medical University (formerly Sindh Medical College) in 1998. His journey has been marked by significant academic achievements and notable leadership prowess. Dr. Murad undertook comprehensive training in internal medicine and advanced cardiology, earning esteemed qualifications, including FCPS Cardiology, FRCP, FESC, FGHA, MRCP Glasgow, and an MSc in heart failure from St George’s University Hospital London.

Beyond academia, Dr. Murad shares his expertise as a lecturer at a medical school and mentors trainees in cardiology fellowship programs. His role as a practicing Cardiologist within the NHS focuses on heart failure and cardiac imaging. As the lead for SAS Drs/International Medical Graduates, he offers extensive career guidance, consistently promoting professional growth within the medical community. This dedication seamlessly aligns with his commitment to advancing the field’s continuous development.

Dr. Salman Ali Khan

Treasurer

Dr Salman Ali Khan is appointed as Treasurer in JSMAA. His journey begins with graduation from Sindh Medical College (SMC) 98’ followed by the Fellowship Training in Medicine under well-known Professors of Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center, Rub Medical Center and Agha Khan University Hospital. While staying at AKU he realised that he is more effective and flourish as A&E physician so he move to ED and then since that he is working as ED physician. Later moved to Oman and stayed there for 12 years. Working in Sultan Qaboos University Hospital gave him a great support to progress his career in ED and gave opportunity to built up his teaching skills. There he was involved in departmental teaching to the undergraduate medical students. In early 2020 moved with his family to UK and since then working as ED physician in Kettering General Hospital. He is constantly involved in teaching to undergraduate students and junior colleagues. He is also involved in socialising and providing educational support to his juniors and help to support new people struggling to get jobs in UK. Also he always keen to bring the friends and colleagues together and arranging get togethers at his home. It is not wrong to say that the concept and Birth of JSMAA happened in his house. With his role in JSMAA, Dr. Khan as treasurer is showing the trust of his colleagues on him and glimpses of his personality which make him connected to all his colleagues and friends.

It’s a great pleasure to be appointed as an Educational Resources Coordinator & Event Coordinator at JSMAA. My journey begins with graduation from Sindh Medical College (SMC) followed by the Basic Surgical Training from JPMC Karachi. I started my career in Trauma and Orthopedics (both operative and physical therapy rehabilitation) and acquired a clinical Diploma from the UK. Later I switched my specialty to Emergency Medicine in 2011 which appeared to be a good decision due to the background of trauma surgery. I acquired MRCEM and holds the Membership from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine UK. Currently, I am working as an Emergency Physician in East Midlands UK. In addition to my clinical practice, my role comprises of teaching, case based discussions and leadership skills to support colleagues and clinical staff. I strongly believe in professionalism and knowledge. With my role in JSMAA, I am delighted to help and support the juniors in their career progression and clinical skills. I am keen to organize CPD sessions followed by social gatherings with the help of other members to bring friends and families together and share their ideas and experiences which is an essential part among overseas communities.

Dr. Samreen Fakeer

IMG Advisor

I graduated from Sindh Medical College (SMC) in 2010–2011 and completed my FCPS training at Dow University Hospital between 2012 and 2016, achieving my FCPS qualification in 2017. Following this, I worked as a Senior Registrar in Quetta, Balochistan.
I am an ST5 trainee in Obstetrics and Genecology based at Doncaster Hospital, UK.
After successfully passing the MRCOG, I moved to the UK in 2022. I initially worked as a Senior Registrar (SAS) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from 2022 to 2024 before joining the Direct Entry ST3 Obstetrics and Gynaecology Training Programme in the Sheffield Deanery. I am currently an ST5 trainee at Doncaster Hospital.
Alongside my clinical work, I have a strong interest in medical education and trainee development. I have been running Direct Entry ST3 interview preparation sessions for the past two years. I also hold leadership roles as a Teaching Lead, Journal Club Organiser, and currently serve as the Trainee Representative at Doncaster Hospital.
I am delighted to be joining JSMAA as an IMG Advisor. I look forward to supporting international medical graduates with CV preparation, portfolio development, interview skills, NHS job applications, interview preparation programmes, and career guidance. I am always happy to help and support colleagues on their journey into NHS training and employment.

Dr. Rumana Ishtiaq

I have worked in Islamabad till 2006 and in UAE till 2016.
Moved to UK in 2016 worked in Geriatrics and then joined GP training.
I am currently working as GP Partner in a 2 site practice catering 20k patients.
I am the lead Trainer in my practice, Clinical Supervisor to F2 and introduced Medical Students in my practice.
I lead the Social media for my practice along with Diabetics, and Osteoporosis.
I am also responsible for ‘Patient Participation Group’ in my practice.
I have been part of JSMAA since the start of its making.
Now I have joined the working team as ‘Social media lead ’.
I’m happy with my experience as GP trainer.

Dr. Mukesh Kumar

Chief coordinator

Dr. Mukesh Kumar, a distinguished alumnus of JSMU (formerly SMC), graduated in 1998. He pursued his membership and fellowship training at NICVD and Ziauddin University Hospital Karachi, subsequently becoming a prominent figure in the field. Dr. Kumar currently serves as the Head of Anesthesia and SICU at Ziauddin University Hospital. His expertise lies in cardiac anesthesia, and he adeptly manages regional and general anesthesia cases. Driven by a passion for excellence, he continues to contribute significantly to the medical field.
